The dive sites we visit are located off the coast of Port Douglas, Queensland, Australia. They are situated approximately 70km offshore, which equates to 1.5hr to 2.5hrs travel time, depending on the cruising speed of the vessel. Agincourt, Opal and Tongue reefs are part of the Great Barrier Reef system, one of the most diverse and spectacular marine ecosystems on the planet and they lie along the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef, closest to the continental shelf. These Port Douglas “local reefs” as we affectionately call them are known worldwide for their stunning underwater landscapes, crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life.

PRIVATE CHARTER
The beauty of privately chartering your own vessel with Resurface Dive, is that you are not limited to fixed/set dive site moorings pre-determined by a tour company. A private dive charter means that the dive instructor and vessel skipper work together with you to determine your diving experience, skills and desires to pair that with the most appropriate dive sites available and the prevailing conditions on the day. It is our flexibility in site selection, that gives us the ability to deliver dive experiences that are not only safe and appropriate, but will leave you awe of the magical Great Barrier Reef.
When diving with Resurface Dive, aboard a private charter in this remarkable area off the coast of Port Douglas, divers can Expect:
Clear Visibility: the water clarity in this region is exceptional, offering excellent visibility year round. Typically visibility is no less than 10 metres. In the cooler winter months visibility can be in excess of 30 metres, allowing divers to fully immerse themselves in the breathtaking underwater scenery
Pleasant Water Temperatures: water temperatures reaches a minimum of 23 degrees celcius in winter, and a maximum of 30 degrees celsius in summer.
Marine biodiversity: the rich ecosystem of these reefs allows divers to observe marine life in its natural habitat. Over 1,500 species of tropical reef fish call these reefs home. As well as sea turtles, reef sharks and rays.
Diverse seascapes: each reef has its own unique characteristics and the underwater topography can change from site to site, ensuring a varied and exciting experience across a whole day of diving From vertical walls, to sloping coral gardens to towering bommies – the landscape offers something different.
Vibrant coral species: all sites across these three reefs boast an array of colourful coral formations creating a picturesque backdrop for your dives. The GBR hosts 400 different species of corals providing shelter and feeding grounds for many different marine organisms.

With the right tides, some areas of Agincourt, Opal and Tongue reefs, offer drift diving opportunities, where your Resurface Dive instructor will lead you on a wonderful underwater journey. You can let the ocean current gently carry you along the reef, observing the marine life as you pass by. It’s an effortless and magical way to explore the underwater world.
